To stop night time Coughing in a child (or adult as we found out personally), put VicksVapo rub generously on the bottom of the feet at bedtime, then cover with socks. Even persistent, heavy, deep coughing will stop in about 5 minutes and stay stopped for many, many hours of relief. Works 100% of the time and is more effective in children than even very strong prescription cough medicines. In addition it is extremely soothing and comforting and they will sleep soundly.
Personally, I have not tried this but believe me I am going to. My mom has a terrible seasonal cough that caused her heart to spasm so we will be trying this one.

they come in vicks patches, my mom already has them and is trying it tonight.
We have tried it. It worked great on the boys, I had a hard time with the goopiness on my feet and then having to wear socks to bed! AHH, you say there are patches?! I will have to try those next time.

I tried the "feet" thing, and it did not work, but I am a HUGE Vicks VaporRub fan and completely believe that rubbing it on the chest, back and covering with a shirt definitely stops the cough. Plus I think the smell is YUMMY!! (Weird, I know. :)

Awesome tip! I am into all natural, no meds! I will definitely be trying this if my kids ever get a bad cough, which is never. But great info!
